Training on the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism held at the Graduate School of Business and Entrepreneurship

On May 20, 2025, the Graduate School of Business and Entrepreneurship hosted a dedicated training session on the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) for representatives of relevant ministries and government agencies. The event was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Project Office of the Green Economy Projects Center, with the support of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
The training aimed to raise awareness of the newly introduced CBAM mechanism, explain its core principles, and provide practical guidance on preparing Uzbek enterprises for its implementation.
CBAM is a regulatory instrument introduced by the EU in 2023, which imposes a carbon price on certain imported goods based on the carbon emissions generated during their production. This mechanism forms an integral part of the EU’s decarbonization strategy and requires exporting countries to enhance transparency and reporting systems related to emissions.
During the training, participants were introduced to the legal foundations of CBAM, its calculation methods, carbon emissions monitoring and reporting procedures, and international certification practices. The discussions also covered the importance of compliance with environmental standards for accessing the EU market, assessing enterprise readiness, and identifying practical solutions.
Participants received recommendations on aligning domestic policies and actions with CBAM requirements within their respective sectors. The event brought together officials from key ministries, sectoral organizations, and technical experts.
The outcomes of the training are considered a significant step forward in Uzbekistan’s transition to a green economy.
