From May 18 to 22 of this year, a delegation from the Graduate School of Business and Entrepreneurship undertook a working visit to Opole, Republic of Poland. The visit was organized within the framework of the European Union’s Erasmus+ project (KA2 strand) titled “GreenCamUz – Green Campus Initiative: Integrating Sustainability into Higher Education in Uzbekistan.” Throughout the visit, the representatives of the Graduate School actively participated in intensive international training workshops hosted by the project's expert partner, the Opole University of Technology. Focused on sustainable development and green campuses, these prestigious events brought together 27 representatives from partner universities across Uzbekistan, Turkey and Lithuania under a single weekly program.
On the opening day of the workshops, the Uzbek specialists presented a draft of the “Green Campus” Strategy and its corresponding implementation Roadmap, tailored specifically for the domestic higher education institutions participating in the project. These strategic documents, which aim to advance environmental sustainability and transform higher education institutions into modern green campuses, were highly commended and well-received by experts from Polish, Lithuanian and Turkish universities. In turn, Opole University of Technology led the international cooperation and knowledge exchange by sharing its institutional expertise in implementing sustainable development solutions, energy efficiency, and creating environmentally friendly academic campuses.
Following its successful launch, the week-long program proceeded with comprehensive lectures, expert presentations, and collaborative practical sessions. During the workshops, participants engaged in joint development sessions to design new course syllabuses in ecology and sustainable development. Concurrently, the host university demonstrated its cutting-edge solutions implemented in renewable energy sources, energy management, waste management and sustainable transport development. A unique feature of the program was the inclusion of eco-driving sessions for the participants, which taught low-emission and energy-efficient driving techniques aimed at fostering a more responsible approach toward transportation.
To bridge theoretical and methodological knowledge with practical application, specialized study visits were integrated into the itinerary. Notably, the participants visited a modern wastewater treatment plant in Opole, where they gained firsthand insight into the facility's technical capabilities, advanced environmental safety technologies, and its automated management system.
This working visit marks another significant milestone in the ongoing efforts of the Graduate School of Business and Entrepreneurship to expand international academic cooperation and integrate the principles of sustainability and green economy into the higher education system. The rich experience acquired, the European benchmarks studied, and the new partnerships established will serve as a solid foundation for the successful implementation of the “Green Campus” concept across higher education institutions in Uzbekistan.
